In Memory of the Labour Party

Harold is our master, therefore I lack everything.
He shall feed me at an increase cost
and bring me into the path of bankruptcy, for his name sake.
Yeah though I drive through the valley of breath test, I will not breathe.
For thou art with me, thy law and restrictions discomfort me.
Thou shalt leave me defenceless against them that trouble me.
Thou hast appointed yourself Head of all and my pocket is empty.
But for Heath's sake and his loving kindness and mercy I will dwell in a Council house forever.
Glory be further than it has been in the beginning.

Then shall the Minister say :-

Lord have General Election, please have a General Election.

Every-body:

Our Father who art in Downing Street, Harold be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth probably in heaven. Give us this day our dearer bread, and forgive us our devaluations. As we forgive those that speculate against us. Lead us not into the Common Market, and deliver us from De Gaule. Fore thine is the boredom, no power, no glory, forever and ever. So Lord please help us.
Enter not into correspondence with the Inland Revenue, for by the tax man shall each man living be crucified.
Grant unto us maternal rest, and let Family Allowance shower upon us.
We really would like to see the faults in Socialism in this land of the idle. Oh Harold please hear our prayer, and our supplications come to thee.
Please Harold, source of all misery and giver of much suffering, deal graciously we beseech thee, with world trade that is casting every care upon them, so they know the effects of the devaluation of the pound, through thy humble servant Roy Jenkins.

Written by the late Mrs Gloria Reid.

This poem was written in 1979. At the time Mrs Reid was one of many people that felt the crushing impact of the closure of Crabtrees and the demise of the coal industry.
